Mini Top Hat Tutorial by fetishfaerie-stock Mini Top Hat Tutorial by fetishfaerie-stock
I've had a lot of people ask me how I made my last mini top hat... so I spent a few weeks photographing the process (I haven't spent much time on art lately.. darn X-Men Legends!), and tried my best to describe how I put everything together.

Best of luck for anyone who tries their hand at it - it's lots of fun. And if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

This is super flipping useful, thank you so much for documenting and posting this tutorial.
I've been looking for a clearly described how to tutorial on making mini top hat for a plush I've been building, but most I've found have been either vague or under photographed with little to no diagrams included.
This is head and shoulders above the rest simply because you got everything down both visually and textually and it is GREAT. <3

Thank you so much!  I'm glad you could use the tutorial. :)
I get really frustrated when I see something that I want to create and have no idea where to even begin.  I'm so detail-oriented, and it can be a real pain to figure things out.
So I'm glad when I can help others with the process.

It's been really super helpful for me in so many ways. I've been trying to make a prop tophat for a character plush I've been putting together, but it's so small it's been... Rather a hassle.
The steps you lay out are so nice and clear, it's helped me LOADS in figuring out how to make the tiny darn thing. :)

I make so many of these little top hats =) out of fabric, buttons, duct tape and whatever else i can find =) i use soda boxes for the base =) This is really helpful =) the way you attach the fabric to the base  is especially clever =) i love it and the lace ruffles underneath is adorable

I love this tutorial but I have a quick question. How do you keep the velvet from crinkling when you glue it to the larger cardboard, after you glue the height on?

Hey there! This tutorial is pretty good, even though I'm not necessarily making a top cat for a person. My top hat is going to be for a toy I'm making-I plan on using the same materials, but I'm not sure what I would use in lieu of a haircomb. The toy itself is going to be a stuffed penguin, and I plan to make the hat detachable. I was thinking of using Velcro strips, but that seems like it wouldn't work well. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for things to use to make the hat attachable/detachable .

A while back, at 2AM, I decided to make a top hat and used this tutorial. With a few minor changes, I've made several top hats. :) If anyone needs a tutorial, USE THIS ONE! I've gotten so many compliments on the ones I've made, and it's so fun.
